At fourteen weeks old the pups will be feed from their mothers milk ,but can eat milky foods, vegetables, dry hamster food, and runny porridge. Syrain pups still feed on their mothers milk until they're twenty-six to twenty-eight days of age since they were born. Remove the father hamster from the cage and to a separate cage. The father should not be kept in a cage with any of the pups because he could either kill the male pups or impregnate or kill his female pups.
A mother hamster can have up to about twenty-four pups in a litter.
Newborn pups are only about an inch long.
BABY HAMSTERS
Newborn pups are deaf, hairless and blind. They rely on their sense of smell to find their mothers milk.
Dwarf hamsters will stop being feed from their mothers milk earlier that a Syrian hamster would. They would stop being breastfeed at about three weeks old.
Baby hamsters grow very quickly.
Once the pups are born, take the father hamster out of the cage. Put him in another cage, you don't want the mother hamster worry about a second pregnancy. If you would like to hold one of the pups you must wait until they are about three weeks old. Try to sex them (separate the female from male) when they are four weeks old to prevent fight and/or more pregnancies.
At about the age of one week, the pups teeth with emerge from the their gums and their hair/fur will begin to grown and their skin color starts to appear.
Baby hamster, male and female, are called pups.
Pups grow inside the sow for usually about sixteen days.
If the mother allows the male hamster in the nest you might be able to keep him in the cage instead of taking him out a little after the pups are born. At five weeks every hamster species will be able to live on their own. If the pups that you own are Syrians you will need to separate each pup. Syrains are solitary hamsters (Live alone) so you will need to separate them into different cages.
At about eleven to fourteen days of age the pups will start to walk.
Stay away from the cage as much as possible. Essential things such such as fresh food and water are acceptable but otherwise try to stay away from the area. The reason for this is that if the mother hamster too nervous or stressed she could eat or kill her pups.
