A water bottle is another important necessity. A good water bottle would be something to invest in, as cheap water bottles can be poorly made and leak. A leaking water bottle can be dangerous as it can soak the bedding beneath it, which can create bacteria growth & an uncomfortable environment for the hamster.

Hamsters teeth are constantly growing. To prevent overgrowth, your hamster will need things to chew on to wear them down. Good options are Greenies™️ or Whimzees™️ dog chews, milkbones ( original flavour ) and most hamster chews found in pet stores or online. Hamsters may prefer different chews, so it is important to keep trying new chews until you find ones they like.

Toys

Hamsters will need a food dish to keep track of how much their are eating, and if they are eating. Without a bowl, it can be difficult to tell if your hamster is being fed too much or too little. A hamsters bowl should be large enough for them to sit comfortably in. Your hamster ( depending on age, species, and size ) should be fed from 1 teaspoon to 3 tablespoons of food every 3-4 days. Hamsters do not eat all of the food they are given in one day, so even when the bowl is empty, they will stash the rest in their burrow.

Hamster are very energetic and active rodents and will require a few toys to keep them entertained. You can look at your local pet store and may be able to find something suitable. Toys also provide enrichment for your pet, as in their natural habitat would have lots of different pieces of wood & bark to hide under & climb on. Toys can be pretty expensive, but it is a good idea to invest in some high quality ones or make your own.
